Yeshivat Shalshelet is a Yeshiva day school located in Tenafly, NJ, serving children in grades 2-7 with language based learning differences. Our program is designed to produce strong self advocates who can navigate the academic landscape, empowered by their knowledge and self-awareness. Position Summary: 

Yeshivat Shalshelet seeks a full time Principal to join our collaborative leadership team. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of educational frameworks, a passion for cultivating an engaging and supportive environment for students and teachers and experience working with students with language based learning difficulties. 

Key Responsibilities: 

In close collaboration with the Head of School, the Principal will: 

  • Develop, implement and oversee curriculum across content areas 
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum
  • Provide formal and informal feedback on teacher observations, lesson plan reviews, and curriculum design
  • Develop and support a culture of collaborative and reflective practice among teachers and the academic leadership team 
  • Establish programs for the orientation of new teachers and staff members and for the evaluation of classroom teachers to ensure that teachers are familiar with and adhere to school policies in all areas of school operation
  • Plan and oversee ongoing professional development, particularly in the use of multisensory and language-based instruction
  • Cultivate team approaches and  positive interpersonal relationships among staff members 
  • Read, provide feedback on and edit  student progress notes and academic updates
  • Communicate effectively with students, teachers and parents
  • Lead and participate in weekly team meetings with faculty 
  • Prepare, in conjunction with other administrators, schedules and teacher/student class assignments, and teacher responsibilities  
  • Ensure compliance with and maintenance of educational standards consistent with local agencies and accreditation standards
  • Oversee student testing, track and maintain student progress records and analyze assessment data
  • Assist in the admission and enrollment process for students, including testing, interviewing, and evaluating applicants for enrollment
  • Monitor and attend to the educational, physical, social-emotional, and psychological needs of the members of our school community and develop plans for meeting those needs
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of School on all matters 


  • 5+ years relevant experience in an educational leadership role
  • Master’s Degree in special education, speech and language pathology or related field 
  • NJ Special Education / Speech and Language certification or eligibility
  • Proficiency in Orton-Gillingham approach and multisensory instruction 
  • Experience working with students diagnosed with language-based learning differences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and simultaneously manage multiple work-streams
